South Wales FRS has an interest in exploring proposals to support their contingency arrangements by considering a provision of incident commanders.

During the most recent FBU disputes it has not been necessary to deploy as the SWFRS fire fighters have not taken industrial action. It is recognised by SWFRS that this position is not certain going forward and it is possible that local disputes could result in action being taken in the future, for this reason a sustainable contingency plan is being considered.

South Wales Fire and Rescue Service are seeking a partner to enable the Fire Authority to put in place arrangements to allow them to discharge their duties in the following (but not limited to) exceptional emergency circumstances:

Natural Disaster;

Terrorist event;

Pandemic (Avian flu/SARS etc.);

Industrial action.
