Section II: Object of the design contest/description of the project

II.1.1)Title attributed to the design contest/project by the contracting authority/entity:
Pressure Testing and Data Recording Device.
II.1.2)Short description:
Wales & West Utilities Ltd (WWU) would like to appoint a design partner to design and build one or more electronic pressure testing devices. WWU have established the intrinsic safety requirements and testing parameters for such a device and would like to seek a design partner to undertake development of suitable pressure testing devices that meet the needs of WWU.
WWU will support the development of these devices to be used in various environments within the gas industry. The device may need to be suitable for a number of different test environments and also be able to receive record and transmit data to a central database and/or transmit data to a suitably connected mobile device that can be used as an intermediary to a central database.
Design Brief:
The device must operate using Natural Gas and Nitrogen.
The device should be able to operate at the following pressure:
0 mbarg - 3 barg (0 PSI - 44 PSI)
Additionally, the following pressure range would be desirable:
2 barg -10.5 barg ( 29 PSI - 152 PSI)
The device will need to meet the following requirements:
The device should be able to receive incoming data as well as export data collected during a pressure test.
The device should be of a robust build to ensure any accidental damage does not affect the integrity of the device or its use.
The device should be water repellent.
The device will need to interface (directly or indirectly) with WWU's core asset repository SAP.
Working Environment:
(Various) - Internal testing (meter points), external testing in footpaths, highways, private properties (Service pipe and or Mains pipe testing).
WWU recognises that there are a number of potential solutions the form of this device may take. I.e. This device could be a traditional pressure testing hand held device or a smarter device such as a Smartphone or smart device. WWU would like to consider all the potential solutions.
A prototype device that can be deployed into the operational field and rigorously tested in the various environments WWU operates within.
A device that can communicate with WWU's back office system. (ideally via a mobile device)
