Wrexham County Borough Council is proposing to seek offers for 2 solar farms to be built. The proposed solar farms may include the potential to develop a community funded scheme. The initial scheme is to be installed and completed within the next 9 months and the Council will be entering into discussions with potential bidders in 3 months. The larger scheme may have to follow CfD therefore the completion time scales would be circa end of 2016.
Additional information:
2.1 The Council is currently considering 2 linked arrangements:
- Option 1 - a 10-15 MW solar farm project on farmland, and
- Option 2 - a 2.5 MW scheme on former landfill site.
These sites have been identified by the Council for the sitting of the arrays (subject to planning permission and G59/2 connection offer) and the intention would be to make both lands available as 1 project for the potential developers.
2.2 The Council is considering an option where solutions will be provided by the investors to develop 2 solar farms on Council own lands which could bring long-term income stream for the Authority.
2.3 The Council is therefore keen to hear from interested parties, who have proven track record of completing solar farm projects including community funded schemes, for the purpose of establishing that the proposed arrangements are both feasible and appropriate.
2.4 The Council is also keen to find if there are any specific innovative solutions that could be explored and with a view to flushing out any challenges or problems that may be relevant to the procurement and/or income generation - ‘Sleeving’ being one of them.
